A HypnoBirthing Amazing Birth Story

First and foremost, thank you for your classes — truly. I can confidently say I have a 100% positive birth story and I know that wouldn’t have been possible without the knowledge and preparation we gained through Hypnobirthing. I feel so unbelievably proud to be part of the small group of people who left the hospital with no regrets — just joy, laughter, pride, and total confidence. It all began with the lessons we learned from you.

Funny enough, I didn’t actually use many Hypnobirthing techniques during labor (more on that in a moment), but it was the tools, knowledge, and mindset we practiced that made everything go so smoothly. Multiple times I was asked, “How do you know all of this?!” and every time, I said — Hypnobirthing classes!
Charlie came right on his due date. That morning, between meetings, I had some spare time and decided to start the Miles Circuit. I completed the first pose, laid down on my side, and at 10:45 AM, my water broke. I told Phil, and he immediately said, “We should go now!” But I was calm and said no — I hadn’t felt a single contraction, so we’d likely be home for another 6–8 hours. I planned to shower, relax, do some meditation, and wait until contractions hit the 3-2-1 pattern.
By 12:30, I still wasn’t having consistent contractions — just a few here and there — and when Phil asked if he could mow the lawn, I told him to go for it. “We have plenty of time!” (Famous last words.) The early contractions felt mostly in my back, so I immediately went inverted into Child’s Pose — I remembered the story you told about the woman being carried down the stairs and how that helped with back labor. I’m not sure if mine truly was back labor, but once I got up, I noticed the contractions had shifted and felt more all-around.
At 1:10 PM, I started timing contractions… and they were two minutes apart for 30 minutes. I looked at Phil and said, “We have GOT to go!” He loaded the car, I grabbed my labor comb, and we jumped on the 77 toll road. For a few moments, I genuinely thought we might have a baby on the side of the road. But we had our birth affirmations playing in the car, and they helped me stay calm — even while silently questioning the traffic.

We arrived at the hospital at 2:30 PM, and I was 5cm dilated. The contractions were intense and just a minute apart. I was squeezing my labor comb, focusing on my breath, and told Phil, “If this is what 5–10cm feels like and it’s going to take hours, I need the epidural.” The nurse said they’d need to draw blood first, but the contractions were coming so fast that I couldn’t sit still long enough - I needed to move and breathe. After about 30 minutes, they finally got the sample, and the nurse told me they’d send it off and call anesthesia. At that moment, I looked up and said, “I need to push.” She looked at me like, “Wait, what?” They checked, and sure enough, I had gone from 5 to 10cm in just over 30 minutes.
Looking back, that transition phase was intense — so it’s pretty funny I was asking for drugs right in the thick of it!
After 15 minutes of pushing, they let me reach down and pull Charlie out myself. Phil got to tell me that it was a boy, and we just looked at each other like, “What in the world just happened in the last three hours?!” We went from mowing the lawn to parents!

We had the most peaceful Golden Hour, and every part of our birth plan was honored. One nurse who had been at the birth came by later and said, “In my 23 years as a nurse, I’ve never seen anyone so calm giving birth unmedicated.” I was honestly a mix of shocked, proud, and deeply grateful for the hours upon hours of preparation that led up to that moment.
Everything has been going well with Charlie, and Phil has been an incredible dad — he's really made sure the postpartum experience matches the birth (maybe not the speed, but definitely the positivity).
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for the tools, the guidance, and for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you Diana, for sharing your AMAZING birth story with us! Share far and wide. More people need to know that birth can be an empowering and positive life altering experience! -Rebecca
